The Monster Project is a collaboration between children and professional artists from all over the world. Running since 2010, it has involved thousands of artists and children over the years. The premise is simple:
1. Kids draw a monster
2. Pro Artists reimagine them
3. The final result is delivered back to the kids.
I was thrilled to be invited to contribute to the 2021 Monster Project, which was later compiled into The Monster Project Artbook vol.3. For this edition, 112 kids from Austin, Texas, drew monsters, and the artists got to pick ones they wanted to reimagine.
I chose Briana’s cute and whimsical monsters. I reimagined them in my own style, while staying true to her original design, which jumped out at me. I tried not to alter much because her original design was already perfect. The result features the same monster, reimagined as if it were jumping straight out of a picture book.
